This guide outlines 10 stunning views you need to add to your Banff itinerary. At this point, Banff has grown in popularity over the years, and with good reason. It is absolutely gorgeous. So much so that after I returned home from my first visit, I went back again two weeks later. In order to prove my point, outlined below are the top views to add to your list.
Banff Itinerary
10 Stunning View Points
- Moraine Lake
- Lake Louise
- Peyto Lake
- Two Jack Lake
- Bow Lake
- Johnston Canyon
- Lake Minnewanka
- Lake Agnes Tea House
- Tunnel Mountain
- Vermilion Lakes
1. Moraine Lake
Number one on the list is the iconic Moraine Lake. With this in mind, be sure to get up early and dedicate a few hours to explore and soak in the beauty at all angles. There is a trail that follows the perimeter of the lake, as well as a small hike up a hill that will allow you views from an elevated perspective.
2. Lake Louise
Secondly, Lake Louise. It is difficult to find a photo that reflects how massive and beautiful Lake Louise is. On one hand, it can feel overwhelming, but on the other hand, it is breathtaking. Especially if you get the chance to rent a canoe and experience it up close.
3. Peyto Lake
Next up, Peyto Lake. While it is a bit of a drive to get to, it is completely worth it. Without a doubt, the extra time and small uphill hike required to access this viewpoint is quickly overshadowed by this spectacular view.
4. Two Jack Lake
Two Jack Lake was repeatedly visited over my Banff itinerary. Not only is it very easy to access from Banff, it is also absolutely stunning and had my favorite view of Mount Rundle. Whether you’re hanging out with a packed picnic, or watching the sunrise, Two Jack Lake is a great option.
5. Bow Lake
In the likely event that you’re driving the Icefields Parkway at some point during your Banff itinerary, Bow Lake is a wonderful viewpoint to stop. As shown above, the reflection at some points felt almost like a mirror image.
6. Johnston Canyon
Another option that is close by, Johnston Canyon has a very accessible trail and some great views along the way. You can spend as much or as little time here as you’d like, which is great for a family friendly option.
7. Lake Minnewanka
While I did not get to experience it, Lake Minnewanka offers a boat cruise that has great reviews. Even so, the lake itself is huge and enjoyable to walk around the rocks.
8. Lake Agnes TeaHouse & Little Beehive
To illustrate the size and beauty of Lake Louise can best be shown from above. If you’re looking for a more moderately challenging hike, I highly recommend hiking to the Lake Agnes Teahouse and then continuing to Little Beehive. As shown above, you will see the iconic Lake Louise turquoise water, along with Mirror Lake, found on the trail to the teahouse.
9. Tunnel Mountain
Next on the list, Tunnel Mountain. In the event that you are road tripping to Banff, Tunnel Mountain is an excellent first hike to stretch your legs and see a stunning view of the city. Generally speaking, the trail is relatively easy, just shy of 3 miles, and can be completed in between 1 and 2 hours.
10. Vermilion Lakes
Finally, the last on the list is Vermilion Lakes. Still easily accessible, there are plenty of options to canoe, bike or simply sit and enjoy another view of Mount Rundle.
